72 NAMES OF GOD

This coming Saturday we arrive at one of the most powerful Shabbats of the entire year — the portion featuring the 72 Names of God. Here’s a lecture I shared on Shabbat a few years ago on this portion, from the wisdom I learned from Kabbalist Rav Berg:

if this guy is really preaching on behalf of god etc I find it a lil weird that he keeps using his right hand with the sign of the devils horns, so called “rock and roll” hand sign, whilst preaching. . . . .
some of what he says has bearing, a lot of what he says does not.

if you rid yourself of your ego you rid yourself of protection. after all the ego is concerned with ‘self’
yes we need to be more empathetic, yes we need to treat our neighbours with the same level of kindness we our selves desire but to rid ourselves of ego it to rid ourselves of the defence which is in place to protect us from hard… i.e. evil.
the ego is not our enemy, its a part of our ‘self’ – if you cant manage your ‘self’ – the answer isn’t to rid yourself of your ‘self’ the answer is surely to manage your ‘self’ better.

    • ego does not mean what you might think it does. Ego means, I am the greatest. Ego means, i think i am the absolute worst. The ego says, I can do no wrong. The ego says, i can do nothing right. Ego lives at both ends of the spectrum. Ego is about our reactions to the external world.

so death is because of a reaction of the ego – to good or bad…. so a 3 year old who gets ill and dies… they reacted too much? ha

    • Past life. The child came for a correction, which is death, as death purifies the negative aspects of our nature, the ego, according to the ancient Kabbalists. If the child lives to 12 and dies after that, its for the karmic correction of the parents. After 12 for a girl and 13 for a boy, then it’s all based on their own behavior.
