TRADING PLACES

Years ago, Kabbalist Rav Berg shared a profound insight on this week’s Torah portion of Toldot. It holds the secret on how to achieve all that your heart and soul desires. The lesson and instruction on how to achieve all your dreams is simple but following the instruction for such a lofty dream is remarkably difficult.

Jacob’s brother Esav sells his first-born birthright to Jacob.

The question is why and for what?

Esav was hungry. Jacob had a bowl of lentil soup. Esav traded his birthright for the bowl of lentil soup. Imagine that!

Both boys were the son of the great biblical patriarch Isaac, who was the son of the great biblical patriarch Abraham. The blessings and honor and spiritual perks that go with being a first-born biblical son are profoundly great. Yet for a meagre bowl of lentil soup, Esav swaps his inherited, God-given birth-right to satisfy his immediate craving.

Forget Jacob and Esav. The story is a code. The entire Torah is really dealing with levels of human consciousness.

Our true self and soul consciousness is Jacob. Our ego/body consciousness is Esav.

The story is about us. The story is about how we always trade away eternal happiness for immediate gratification and this is why we never achieve our true dreams.

First, you must know that the Creator is the one who created all desire. The Light created the infinite vessel and the vessel is pure, infinite desire.

So all of your dreams were implanted within you by the Creator. We are all sparks of that original infinite Vessel of pure Desire.

So the Creator knows, better than you, what you dream of, what you want, and what will make you happy beyond all imagining.

So stop worrying that the path to the Light might not make you happy. Happiness and pleasure is what i’ts all about.

We have that right and that gift and that inheritance to be deeply, eternally happy and fulfilled with unending pleasure.

But we give up that birthright, we swap that birthright every hour of the day and hand it over to our ego (code name Esav) which wants the immediate bowl of lentil soup. The ego covets the immediate physical pleasures of the moment, trading away everything that money cannot buy.

THE TRADE

Money can buy a house. It cannot buy a happy home.

Money can buy sex. It cannot buy love.

Money can buy followers and people who hang on like parasites. Money cannot buy true friends.

Money can buy health insurance. It cannot buy genuine healing and well-being.

Every time, Rav Berg says, we choose to buy something on the short-term physical level, we trade away something that money cannot buy.

That is exactly what this week’s Torah portion is all about.

Does that mean no more physicality in our lives?

No. Not at all.

If you choose the home, the Light of the Creator has to give you the house so you can build the home.

It’s all about choices and rejecting the whims of ego. Our birthright, as the first born sons of God, means we can have it all. We just have to become shrewd players in the business of life.

This week, through the power of the Torah reading, we are imbued with wisdom, will power and the shrewd desire to resist the dumb and stupid trades that our Opponent, the ego, offers us every day.

We start choosing everything that money cannot buy.

Hi Billy, keep up the Good Work (you Rock!) The final Redemption rests on people like you. ((Seekers and doers.)) I wanted to ask your opinion on something; the Rav said that Yacov was a reincarnation of Adam and that he stole Immortality back from the opponent . When Adam was swindled out of his inheritance by the Opponent (serpentt) so Adam had to come back as Yacov and swindle it back from Esauv (who is a arch-type of the Desire to recieve for the self alone. Using that reasoning, do you think that Chava (Eve) reincarnated as Rifkah ? Does it say that in the Zohar?

    • Yes, this is what the Kabbalists teach. The same story repeats itself. We are also sparks of Adam. same story, different scene, set and costume in each generation.

Esav have a problem what are you say about? he cannot bear is rigth, he feel bad. Could you tell me how can we resolve also this problem?

  5. Gregory says:

Jacob took advantage of Esav being hungry.

You can’t be “spark of vessel”.

“Creator knows better than you what you want” contradicts “light created vessel”. Vessel knows better what it wants. Unless it’s a lie and “vessel is illusion” and not a “pure desire”. Meaning – light determining vessel’s desire doesn’t go well with definition of the vessel.

Did you mean there are also “Second born sons of God”? And they don’t “have it all”?
