THE SECRET TO HAVING IT ALL

Thirsty? If we are, and we want to drink water, we use a cup to hold the water and now we can enjoy our beverage.
If we want to receive fulfillment, blessings, and authentic contentment from this world, we also need a “cup” to hold the blessings in order to drink it all up.

The cup is appreciation.

That’s the secret to having it all.

Here’s how it works:

When we have a lack in our life, when we are missing something that we desperately want, we work hard to fulfill our desire.
But that is a reactive way to receive happiness and the goodness that we want out of life. Consequently, it never lasts. Or, we never achieve it. Or it comes with nasty side effects.

The reason for this is reactive behavior never builds the “cup” that we need to hold the joy that we are seeking.

Reactive behavior is like having a cup with a massive hole in the bottom.

The true cup of blessing that we require is actually made up of our appreciation.

Instead of being motivated by everything that we don’t have, we need to focus on our blessings and appreciate all that we do have. Appreciation must come first. Not for moralistic reasons. Not for “spiritual” behavioral purposes. No. Not at all. Appreciation is the “cup” that draws and allows us to capture all the goodness that we want from this world.

But our ego makes us forget about our blessings and, instead, it puts us in a reactive victim mode, a complaining mode, about all that we don’t have.

If we truly grasp this point, (and it can take a lifetime) we will understand that authentic appreciation is shrewd, smart and, dare I say, the ultimate greedy behavior because it truly delivers results.

As Kabbalist Rav Berg says, there are two kinds of greed: Stupid greed where we use our ego and our complaints about all that we don’t have to motivate  us to achieve. It’s stupid because the happiness never lasts and it comes with side effects that ruin other parts of our life.

Then there is enlightened greed where we use our appreciation and the desires of our soul to build the cup to hold the joy that we seek. It’s enlightened greed because it generates results that are permanent. I don’t think there is a greedy person on earth who only wants to achieve temporary success. Do you?

Perhaps its time for the people in this world to start getting greedier about life and stop selling themselves short and getting sucker punched by the ego.

Perhaps it’s time to start appreciating everything in our own lives and, start appreciating everything good in all of those people who aggravate the hell out of us.

Guess what?

This appreciation, this very act of actively utilizing human consciousness to see and appreciate the good in others, this actually strengthens the good in people. The more you find the good in others, the more you empower their goodness. Likewise, the more you find the bad in others, the more power you transfer to their dark side. This is the power of consciousness.  So, not only do you strengthen and bring out the good in people when you search for it, but your appreciation for this good also draws down untold goodness, joy, positive change and authentic blessings in your life, the kind of blessings that will never end.

Our cup of blessing runneth over. Forever and ever.

That is the true power of appreciation.

As I have shared on many occasions: appreciation is a magnet that attracts more things to appreciate. Complaints and judgment attract more things to complain and judge in our lives.

Stop judging the other side. Resist. Start looking for the good and appreciate all the good in the other side, no matter how dark it may appear to be.

And if we truly appreciated all the blessings in our own lives, we would never ever get angry or upset by anyone or any situation. We won’t be able to wipe that silly smile off our face because we are so damn appreciate of what we have. And then that appreciation will draw an abundance of more things to appreciate. Powerful!

The real, true, hidden and secret reason why we are unhappy in life? It’s because we have allowed our ego to make us forget all that we have to appreciate. A person in a state of appreciation can never be unhappy. Never. Any moment of sadness is merely a lack of appreciation somewhere in our life.

Appreciation.

It’s smart business in the business of life and humankind.
